Main International Activities
Joint Operations
Every year, the Navy takes part on different multinational activities aimed to establish and strengthen operational, technical and human resources bonds with other navies. Furthermore, it participates at peacekeeping operations sponsored by the United Nations. Thus, the Navy pursues to consolidate its position at the Pacific to make a bigger contribution to the foreign policy of Chile in this area.
Peace Operations
UNFICYP
(United Nations Forces in Cyprus) The UNFICYP was created on 1964 to prevent the expanding of the fight between the Greek Cypriot and the Turkish Cypriot communities. After the hostilities began in 1974, the responsibilities of this mission have increased. Currently, the UNFICYP stays at the island to monitor the ceasefire, the maintenance of buffer zones and the development of humanitarian activities.
MINUSTAH
(United Nations Stabilization Mission in Haiti) The decision of the United Nations Security Council set a peace mission in Haiti to restore order and peace in the country. The Chilean Navy has been part of it since June 1st, 2004, with a contingent formed by the Navy, the Army, the Air Force, and the Police.
