LSG Puerto Natales was welcome to the Institution to serve for the XII Region on a ceremony presided over by the Commander in Chief of the III Naval Zone, Rear Admiral Arturo Ojeda Zernott, at noon on February 26th, 2002 at the Fiscal Dock "Arturo Prat".
The craft, under the command of First Lieutenant Eduardo Rubilar Mancilla was welcome with military march, as she sailed by the Strait of Magellan for the Prat Dock in Punta Arenas. Upon her arrival, Rear Admiral Ojeda boarded the unit to inspect her complement.
The new vessel, built at the Navy Yards ASMAR, Talcahuano, officially became part of the Navy on December, 2001. She is part of the Danubio Project, developed by the Navy through ASMAR (T), which consists on the construction of 13 general purpose boats (LSG by the initials in Spanish) to serve under the Dirección General del Territorio Marítimo y Marina Mercante (Head Office of Maritime Territory and Merchant Marine). The units are equipped with state-of-the-art technology, which enables them to cover extensive areas in little time at high speed.
LSG Puerto Natales's homeport is at the homonym city. She provides support service to the port work, and maritime and sport activities in the area. She also makes a significant contribution to the isolated villages, which have been traditionally supported by the Chilean Navy.
