This new ship, which was built at ASMAR Yardships in Talcahuano and added to the Chilean Navy in 2001, as a part of "Danubio Project" which was carried out by the Chilean Navy through ASMAR Yardships in Talcachuano. This project consists of constructing 13 General Service Launches (LSG) to the General Directorate of Maritime Territory and Merchant Navy. These units are equipped with the latest technology developments, which allows them to cover long distances in short time and reach high speeds.
The LSG Coquimbo, which base port is Coquimbo, performs maritime and port control over lesser craft and skiffs of the area. Moreover, she carries out a significant contribution to isolated fishermen's coves to which the Chilean Navy traditionally gives support.
