To a great extent, the success of these instruments of cooperation have been sustained \by the sea itself, thus enabling the exchange of goods with the rest of the world.
In addition to providing an opportunity for improving commercial relations the sea has always been an essential source of international cooperation with respect to the various technical and scientific projects carried out in Chile. Some of such projects are: Maritime Search and Rescue, inspection of ships, control of maritime traffic, protection of the environment, combating pollution, preservation of marine resources, meteorology service, nautical cartography and oceanographic research.
