Andrés Fonzo Morán

Rear Admiral Fonzo was born in Valparaíso, Chile, on 12th April 1956. After studying at the Scuola Italiana and Seminario San Rafael schools, he joined the Naval Academy Arturo Prat and was commissioned an ensign on 1st January 1977.


He holds the degree of Naval Mechanic Engineer and he is a Staff officer with a major in Strategy.


Throughout his career, his seagoing appointments have been on board the old Prat cruise, APD Uribe and DLG Williams, also being part of the latter crew for more than 7 years.


Amongst his shore duties, he has performed mainly in the logistic and materiel area, at the Directorate of Units Refitting and particularly in the Directorate General of Services for 6 years, being then designated to the Navy General Staff.


For the last 5 years he has filled duties as Head of the Navy Material Works, in charge of the Navy Land Infrastructure.


On 12th December 2007 he took over as Director of Naval Engineering and Systems.


As from 1st January 2008 the Supreme Government promoted him to Rear Admiral.


He is married to the former Patricia Castillo and they have three children.
