Rear Admiral Romero was born in Valparaíso on 12th March 1957. After graduating from primary and first high school year at the Sacre Couer SS.CC in Valparaiso and Santiago, he entered the Naval Academy "Arturo Prat" in February 1972 and was commissioned an Ensign on December 1976.


He is a Naval Aviation and Staff officer. In 1989 he passed the Fleet Principal Warfare Officer (PWO) course. In 1992 he followed the General Staff course at the Naval War College. In 1993 he took the theory and flight simulator P-3 Orion aircraft course in the Royal Netherlands Navy, being then qualified as flight instructor. He graduated as Staff officer from the Naval War College in 1997.


He holds the following degrees: Bachelor's in Naval and Maritime Sciences with a major in Strategy (1997). Additionally, he is a College Military Professor on Naval Operations.


Throughout his seagoing duties, for more than 14 years he has served on board Escort Destroyer APD "Uribe", Oiler AO "Araucano", Destroyer Light Helicopter DLH "Blanco Encalada", Missile Frigate LM "Casma", Transport Ship TS "Aquiles" and Training Ship TS "Esmeralda".


As Naval Aviator, for more than 12 years he has filled flight duties, mainly as pilot Air Maritime Patrol Squadron VP-1, fulfilling different assignments, ending up as Executive Officer (1998) and afterwards as Squadron Commander (2001-2002). His tour commands are the following: LM "Casma" (1995), Trasnport Ship "Aquiles" (2000) and Training Ship "Esmeralda" (2003).


Within his main shore assignments we can underline: Chief of Staff Command in Chief First Naval Zone (2004) and Secretary to the Navy Commander in Chief (2005-2006).


On December 29th of 2006 he took office as Chief of the Chilean Naval Mission in England and Naval and Defense Attaché to the United Kingdom, Republic of Ireland, The Netherlands and Sweden.


On January 1st of 2008 the Supreme Government promoted him to Rear Admiral.


On January 14th of 2009 he took office as Commander of Naval Air Force.

 

On November 30th of 2009, he took over as Commander in Chief of the First Naval Zone.


He is married to the former Maria Angelica de la Barrera and they have six children: Sofia, Jose Miguel, Pablo, Vicente, Maria Jesus and Juan Cristobal.
